The Community Trust Index survey was conducted from November 28 to December 3, 2023, in Shamva and Mazoe Districts, Mashonaland Central Province. This page presents key results and findings from the survey.

The results indicate a good overall level of institutional trust, with an overall score of 7.6 out of 10. Trust is driven primarily by strong perceptions of the Zimbabwe Red Cross's competencies, which received a score of 8.5, reflecting confidence in the organization's ability to respond effectively, understand community needs, and deliver relevant support. Respondents particularly value the organization's responsiveness, capacity, and engagement with communities.

Perceptions of organizational values are more moderate, with a score of 6.7. While the Red Cross is viewed positively in terms of humanity, inclusiveness, and accountability, lower ratings for transparency, neutrality, and independence reduce the overall values score.

Findings

Trust in the Zimbabwe Red Cross is characterized by a strong perception of operational competence, with respondents expressing high confidence in the organization’s responsiveness, understanding of community needs, capacity, and effectiveness. The overall Competencies score of 8.5 reflects consistently positive assessments across all dimensions and stakeholder groups, indicating that communities generally believe the Red Cross can deliver services and support effectively.

Perceptions of organizational values are more mixed. While respondents rate Humanity (9.2), Inclusiveness (8.9), and Community Trust (8.2) very positively, significantly lower scores for Transparency (4.0), Independence (3.3), and Neutrality (2.8) reduce the overall Values score to 6.7. This suggests that although the Red Cross is widely seen as caring, accessible, and community-oriented, there is less confidence in how openly decisions are communicated and how independent or neutral the organization is perceived to be.
